i love that car! it saves sooooo much gas!…i miss my honda civic though =[
I have the exact car and love it; I get 32mpg average.
The Civic EX gets less miles per gallon than the LX because it revs higher in 5th gear.
really? but why? is it same on old models too ?
The EX manual has the sportier VTEC engine. I think it’s geared a little higher to get some extra power out of it. At 70 mph it’s at 3500 rpm. Most automatics would be at around 2800 rpm. I’m not sure about the EX Automatic though because I’ve never driven one. My miles per gallon is always around 30 to 32 mpg.
My suggestion is if you want good gas mileage get the LX. If you are looking for power get a complete different car. I have a 2003 Honda Civic EX and it’s zippy around the city but does not have alot of power. I’d never race it.
I own TSX now.
Cool car. I’m curious. What are the RPMs at 70 mph? Also how many gears?
thanx. Manual version has 6 gears, auto is 5. mine is auto but I will get the car withing 2 days. I already paid the money and waiting for it to be delivered
no doubt about the a/c, mine gets sooo cold and mine gets around 35 mpg overall
ex’s are cool…good gas milage but theyr pretty slow…u didnt mention the part that it takes almost 10 secs to get to 70ish…i got a vid of this car doin that..lol.
that is why it needs to be tuned
the EX is stil a really slow car, i got a 99 EX and i feel like it moves at a snals pace especially when merging onto the highway
Totally agree. Not much power. What I don’t get is why 5th gear is torqued out more when it still doesn’t have much power. If I want more power I’m going to 4th gear, not staying in 5th.
That’s what I did to mine…put a catback exhaust and a K&N typhoon air intake…didn’t make too much of a difference b/c I got a 4 spd automatic
but it’s still nice.
yea of course! lower gears have more torque! You can spend about 300 bucks and get a cold air intake, headers and an exhaust system and that should fix zour problem by about 40 hp. just go on ebay
i have an ex auto 02 w/ the same engine (d17-all 7th gens have it) and it is the same rpms at 70mph, about 3500 rpms. it gets really high revs when trying to pass somebody, especially on the highway. the VTEC is beast though
it goes alright around 6000 rpms or higher. PS the civic is geared more toward fuel economy, not outright power. if you are looking for power, a K20 with a turbo can do the job. civic ex = 127hp…civic lx = 115hp.
I don’t see why the EX tries to bring power out of 5th gear when there is no power there. I’d rather it rev at 2800 rpms at 70 mph and save on gas. The Civic EX is far far far from being a race car so they shouldn’t take away gas milage.
What should I search for to find this header and exhaust system. Please give me extentions.
you have a very good point. my guess is that honda wants you to have that extra power for inctance, when you are passing somebody on the freeway. so they keep it at higher rpms so you can be closer to the VTEC engagement at 5000 rpms. they add that extra hp and the VTEC for the ex (LX and DX models don’t have VTEC) so you can get your money’s worth since you paid for the fully loaded ex model.
That’s cool. What is VTEC anyways?
If you are going 70 mph you cannot reach 5000 rpms by flooring it in 5th gear, you have to drop it to 4th gear. So again they should leave 5th gear for gas mileage. I do like the car and it treats me good but I don’t get their reasoning. One other thing. The head room in the back of the EX sucks because the roof comes down alot lower.
I’m not sure the exact words to describe it, but it is something that only the more expensive and more loaded hondas have. VTEC helps you to get more power in the high rpm range so acceleration is better. Civic SI’s and TYPE-R’s have an intelligent-VTEC, or an i-VTEC, so you get even more power with it. and the lack of headroom in the back is because of the sunroof probably, and i have a coupe, so it’s worse.
ebay
Thanks for all the info. FYI, the Coupes have less head room in the back just because the roofline is lower in the back to give it that sportier look. The 4 door has plenty of head room in the back.
Carrier Prejean is not that pretty but she has a very perfect body “
